Dancing Alone, Digital Art and Poetry, by joanzone

Dancing Alone

My parents were great dancers, they

met at a dance during the great war. I

remember Grange dances, occasionally

dancing with my father, my feet on his feet.

During the years, mom and dad still

danced, especially after retirement,

seeking out dance clubs where they

resided, Florida and New York,

depending on the time of year.

After Dad’s stroke, he tried to

dance, but had less and less

mobility. It was the end of an

expression of love for them, it was

sorely missed.

Dad is in a nursing home now, newly

relocated. He is not walking, let alone

moving his feet to rhythm. I take his laundry

home, to clean, this way things don’t disappear.

I am adding clothes,

mixing dad’s clothes with moms,

thinking, shirts and pants are together again,

twirling and swirling, remembering Glenn Miller,

dancing, reliving sweet memories.
