Yes, I know, this sounds very dramatic
But, it began with him standing in the cold
Waiting to get in the theater, then being in that theater
With no immune system functioning, destroyed by the chemo
Every virus and germ a massive adversary
Stealing in under the radar, his defenses inoperative
I understand that this was a choice
That he felt he had to see the movie; every cell in his being
Anticipating some excitement that had been denied
Due to the pain and the treatment of his cancer
It was breaking out of that apartment that had become a prison
To journey to another world for a time
To suppress the reality he was dealing with
So, I forgive Star Wars.
It wasn’t the bullet in the gun—that was cancer
Star Wars was the vector , or conveyance
That activated the trigger
Terminating cancer’s advance
Along with it the pain
And my stepson’s earthly existence
May he be finally, at peace
In light and love,
