Microcosm, Digital Art and Poetry, by Joan Ellen Gage

Microcosm

I get it, universe, I

hear you, sniggering, the

irony is not lost to

me. I am the anti-hero,

crushed between duty and

desire. You waited until I

managed to escape my

former life, then you

shut me down again,

trapped within a snow globe, a

microcosm, peering out

into the possibilities, almost

touching them, almost

free, almost. . .

The Not So Great Escape, Digital Art and Poetry by Joan Ellen Gage

The Not So Great Escape

I was finally out, after

plotting and planning,

laying low. I

spied an opening and

went for it, even as

Covid was sneaking in,

infecting, insidiously

changing the dynamics–

shutting down new frontiers,

freezing me in place, again,

pausing my life. So

ironic, a black comedy, my

existence, (what existence?)–

different place, different

prison. Still, there is hope,

always, there is hope. May

2021 finally spring us,

rescue us. May we be

free as high

soaring birds, may we

sing songs of

freedom.

Learning to Say No, Digital Art and Poetry, by joans-zone

On Deaf Ears

I am responsible for my life,

ultimately, I made the

decisions, or didn’t make

them. I did

not find the words to say,

no, or I let them fall from

deaf ears without

pushing them home. I

have a real chance this

time, in spite of 2020’s

obstacles, I am still

freer. I can

pick and choose what I

want to do, or who I want to

be for the remainder of my

life. And to

not live in fear of

anger, criticism,

gas-lighting, controlling,

behavior. I

have this chance, I’m

taking it. I have

learned to say, no.
