The Meat-Up
In these times of pandemics and
dearth of social contact, it
seems logical to pursue potential
partners via dating sites,
does it not? And I’m
certain that there are good
people there among the
scattering of monsters who
lurk beneath the guise of
regular folks. I am
wary and cautious, is it
enough? It seems so
false to advertise yourself as
available, showing your
wares, your very private
self to strangers, as if you
are a commodity, a
vehicle to test drive. I am
never comfortable, sifting,
sorting through head shots,
looking for clues, silently
crossing off the obvious,
recognizing catfishing, romance
scammers. In trying to
select a kind human, I
waver between continuing the
quest, and shutting it
down. It’s hard to stay
open, to have hope. Anxiety
rules, posing the question, am I
heading towards the next
heartbreak?
